Meet the Designer: Dylan Gadsden
Exploring Identity, Fashion, and Authenticity
Dylan and I first met when they were a student at the High School of Fashion Industries about two years ago. They were visiting A2W with their younger sister who was interested in an internship. They have one of those personalities and faces that you’ll never forget. So, when we connected again, I remembered them and in an instant and we started chatting about what we could do together at A2W. Recently, I sat down with Dylan, now the young visionary designer behind KLUB Kidd, to discuss their journey, the ethos of their brand, and what it means to embrace authenticity.
Growing up in Harlem, Dylan navigated the complexities of being Black, queer, and creative in a world that didn’t always understand their style. Dylan's middle school experience was marked by feeling “othered” for their unconventional look, but it also ignited their drive to create. Those early challenges taught Dylan the importance of self-expression which became the foundation for KLUB Kidd, a New York-based brand dedicated to uplifting queer identities and exploring culture through sustainable and genderless clothing.
“Inclusivity is key,” Dylan shared, emphasizing their commitment to creating a space where everyone feels seen and celebrated. This vision is reflected in their choice of materials—like stretchy fabrics—and experimental designs, using deadstock materials, that push the boundaries of traditional fashion.
One standout piece from KLUB Kidd is a long durag with a train—a bold and beautiful homage to Black and queer culture. For Dylan, this piece is a celebration of their heritage and a statement on the beauty and resilience of the communities they represent.
When I asked how to inspire those who feel “othered” or uncertain about expressing themselves through fashion, Dylan offered advice: “Find your own style and create a space where you can freely express yourself.” This approach reflects their belief that authenticity attracts like-minded people and fosters supportive communities. Growing up in the diverse streets of New York taught them to embrace differences, which they see as essential to living happily.
Looking ahead, Dylan dreams of expanding KLUB Kidd while stepping into the role of a stylist. The goal is to help individuals discover their personal style using KLUB Kidd creations. “I want to create clothes for people who love to have fun with their outfits—creative people, everyday people, anyone who loves fashion as much as I do,” they explain. When I asked who their dream clients to dress would be they responded, Teyana Taylor and Doja Cat.
Dylan is making fashion more inclusive, expressive and joyful with KLUB Kidd, and their journey is just getting started! To follow along and explore their collection and style on Instagram @dillydill.4.4.4. You can also find Dylan’s collection on the racks at our Port Authority location.
